Beach detectors at the ready with sand scoops, flask and sarnies. Long awaited conditions!!

It was stripping off a few years back for several months, quite a few from this forum spent a lot of time on there. By my reckoning well over 100 pieces of gold, rings and coins, were recovered by us :D

It seemed at the time that if you did not find gold then your detector was not switched on =))

Hello Ray ::g Yes it happens occasionally. I was living there a couple of years ago when it was last in that condition. I recall that in 1972, whilst in Germany (Viersen) my mum in-law sent the odd Scarborough paper, one of which showed the beach completely devoid of sand. During this time an old detecting mate of mine confirmed the conditions and told me it was possible to leave the beach with 600 coins, the majority of which were pre-decimal. Eyes only finds from 'rock-pools' was also quite common too. Those were the days!! Cheers ::g ss47
