If it's lead it'll be a bag seal of some sort.
3/16 may mean bag No.3 of 16.
Not much help I'm afraid! Sorry. :(

Does it by any chance weigh 3 ounces?
Don't have any idea really but I'm sure someone may know.
What sort of size is it?

I weighed it.. thinking it might, but it weighed less than 1 :S

its slightly bigger than a £2 coin, but as thin as a modern 2pence piece. maybe a little bit thicker.

thanks for all your help so far!

Maybe another photo next to a £2 coin and both sides.
Is it magnetic? I assume its less than 3/16 inch thick.

What does it say beneath the 3/16 mark,it looks like gas!.Maybe that will shine some light on it.Maybe a token of some description. :)

It's CAV, Adrian. Rich mentioned that in the first post. :) Token sounds quite likely...
