You have to be carefull relying on in air tests as it represents very little in field conditions Ie iron contamination or mineralisation. It could be that the programm you have put in is intended for fields that are far different than yours. The way I have started to use mine on pasture(especially since getting the larger coil) is start on GMAXX, raise the sense to 95, original discrim and put it on 2 tone (I only dig none ferrouse so only need iron and none ferrouse) I leave ground at factory setting (90) but keep a good watch on the actual reading and if the difference is more than 4 then I adjust as needed. I hardly use the numbers more often than not I dig a good 2 way tone that is steadily in the none ferrouse half of the meter even if it only slight and there no number displayed at all. Sometimes the ferr/noneferr meter skips across the two sides these are the signals I leave alone even if the tone is good it is usually a ring shaped piece of or deep iron.
So to answer your question yes I do use and believe in using your own programe even if it just a slight difference to the factory.

Hi Paul, looking forward to meeting up with you soon, you seem to have really taken to the Deus and like me you have had the GMP before that. Most ex-GMP users seem to adapt to the Deus very well. I am slowly experimenting with other programmes but find the GMP programme so good for me, Liam B-)

After having the gold maxx power moving up to the deus ive found if i try and tweek the settings on certain programmes its gets a bit scatty and has a mind of its own am i right in saying the settings are there for a reason?is it best just to leave well alone or is it better to try and tweak as this was my first outing with the deus so i know it will take some getting used to anyway but can anyone give me a push in the right direction please cheers

Peter, I had the GMP and that was a machine that could be set up in all sorts of ways to suit the ground and other conditions, everyone seemed to have their own special "menu" of settings that worked for THEM. I had my own settings that worked very well, tweaking them now and then as needed. Now, I am not saying that the Deus cannot be tweaked in the same way, there are Deus experts on the forum who have the knack and experience to alter the factory settings and going by their success rate in terms of recovered finds, they are on the right track.
However ... before he sadly passed away, the Norfolk Wolf - John Lynn/Burke - told me that as regards the factory settings, best to not tinker with them until you know the machine inside out, as he had been involved in how the Deus was set up in the factory and that the machine was in a solid state of balance, all of the settings affecting each other.
I do not have the experience and confidence to do any tinkering, will do so in time, but I remember when using the GMP that altering just one aspect of the performance had a knock on effect elsewhere and before you knew it, the machine was very much all scrambled up and doing very little.
Liam

Agree with Liam and Paul mostly....... I do tweek a little, but as a newcomer to the Deus, my advice is stick to the presets for 3-4 months, alter only the frequencies if you have to....get used to what its telling you...IMO.......

My great concern is not whether you have failed, but whether you are content with your failure.

Jimmy, This is the only program that I'm keeping.... tried umpteen different programs, a few weeks ago i defaulted all my programs back. this one stays on the remamed basic 1, today i gave it a go on ploughed and rolled for 1/2 an hour, its brill on that as well, just dropped sense down 2 clicks..... although I was mostly lifting Tombacs today, find rate increased and a bit deeper...jimmy the swing wrote:Hi Geoff its the standerd coil I use =) kmarsh it works very well as i only took to the gold power max but there's better programs then that =)

Hi, I am new to using the deus and was out the other day in the rain, i had problems trying to decide whether to dig a signal or not without looking at the screen every time. I was using the basic 1 programme and would like to know the best way to change tones so that i only have dig tone and a dont bother tone. Can anyone help?

Here are the settings I now use for my really heavy mineralised, coke & iron infested site.
Give them a try and let me know what YOU think !!
Deus Fast Programme...
I only change the following settings :-
Frequency --------------------------------------17.9 KHZ
Sensitivity---------------------------------------85 - 90 or whatever your site will allow
TX ------------------------------------------------3
Audio react -------------------------------------5
Ground balance --------------------------------80 - 84 adjust if neccessary ( if ground changes )
Discrimination ----------------------------------5
Tones---------------------------------------------2
Give it a go, youve nothing to lose.
Good luck !!
I also think, Other Deus users should post some of their settings on this thread, So other members can try a few out ( instead of keeping them secret
)
