Velox one on Beach

Post by Cammy »

I have a problem with the machine on the beach, it will not settle down and chatters away. even when the sensitivity is knocked right down and and the mineralisation control knob set at 3 also when coil touches surface it gives a signal, i think possibly wiring fault. has any one had similiar problem it seems to work alright inland though. :-L

Hello cammy, you say you have set the Velox to Mineral 3 setting but have you increased the Iron discrimination anywhere up to 10 should be fine ::g Also try pumping the coil up and down when increasing the iron setting.
Hopefully this should work, it worked fine for me on wet mineralised sand ::g

Here is a little video I made ::g

Its such a powerful bit of kit even though it was set to 10 you can see it still managed to get good depth ::g Give it a go and see how you get on ::g

Cammy, mine is pretty much the same, I'm guessing it might vary from beach to beach. The video above somewhat swayed me into getting one thinking it would be a good all round machine but I find it a bit frustrating at the beach when the sand is wet, no bother up where the sand is dry, I end up digging up all sorts of junk people bury.

What I noticed in the video is that the sand looks all the same colour whereas on beaches I'm on there seems to be black sand not far below the surface and I don't know if that has anything to do with it. If it works fine inland I wouldn't expect a wiring fault. Mine works great inland, pulled about 7 or 8 coins in an hour in the field behind me this afternoon. I go to the beach with my mate who uses a PI machine and he's out in the wet stuff no bother. I'll probably get a PI machine for the beach, something like a CS4PI, I think it'll perform much better than my Velox 1.

The thing is though, as proof as the video is above that the Velox will work fine on a beach, I have to wonder with those setting does it miss much? I buried a 10 pence I think it was a while back, and the Velox One struggled a bit to pick it up with similar settings, I'm wondering does the pound coin in the video give a better signal as it's a bit heavier.

Anyways, love my Velox One for out in the fields but if someone asked me if I'd recommend it for a wet beach I'd have to say no.

Hi, you are likely to struggle a lot more with black sand, as far as I know its meant to be far more mineralised :(

Best of luck

Thanks for clearing that up mrix, definitely explains why it behaves the way it does.

Hi all im new here but I am just wondering if anyone has a nokta velox one, as I am having problems on the beach on wet sand. Would anyone know what settings to use and how to set it up to get no interference. I have already tried all the things that I can find on the internet and and what on here but where I am doing it is very High in minerals and black sand I would like to know if anyone has also had the same problem as me.

Im doing it in scarborough am getting very worried :( that something is wrong with the machine.

Hi ADDS, If you read just a little back you will see another member also having problems with black sand.
In all honestly I am not sure how and if you can overcome it in these conditions, you best bet maybe would to use the settings in the video I posted in this thread and keep lowering the sensitivity until the machine becomes stable, its a powerful machine so hopefully you will not have to decrease it so much that you lose too much depth in the process ::g

Dont Nock the Nokta just yet
.

Watsy thanks for your respose on this, since i posted the problem and after Mrix solution, i just have been back on the beach today and after watching Mrix vid and setting the machine as he advised i had no problem, so welldone Mrix for the advise and video "who says you cant teach an old dog new tricks" the Nokta settled down quite nicely, though in saying that it is an intricate piece of machinery and i think its all about getting used to it and meddling with the settings until your used to it, i was quite surprised with the machine today as previously i was about to give up as a fault with the coil as there is a distinct difference on how it performs on land and beach it is very sentative on the beach because when you rest the coil on the sand when digging it still can chatter away picking up the mineralised sand but when your swing it works okay, thats how sensative it is, but inland it works wonders the only issue i have with it is that i wish it had a depth indicator like my F5 Lol.
You said there was a problem with the machine picking up the one pound coin, might be what you set it at i.e. iron disc because like modern pennies these coins have a steel core and the machine if discriminates iron it will ignore it due to the size of the coin i think. when watching the Velox vid regards depth they placed a coin in the hole at some depth and it picked it up but if the the coin like alot of euro coins are steel cored then i am not surprised they get signals at around 500 mm deep. unfortunately our Queen's currency is not made to last there only for circulation only, unless there minted before 1994 when they were copper/bronze, i think. to round it off Watsy persivere with it on the beach as the vid shows and you will get a result, but dont exspect the same performance as detecting inland ::g
Keep in there! Cammy

Sorry but Pound coins do not have a steel core yet they still have the same composition they always had http://www.royalmint.com/discover/uk-co ... pound-coin" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
