Even with the volume turned down, the massive array of noise that would come from such a set up on an iron infested Roman site would definately give you hearing fatigue, at the very least you would have a headache....
Not for the faint hearted....
The ability to distinguish between a signal and a false signal would soon merge and become impossible...

But, you need to try these things to get the full experience....
When you are right no one remembers; when you are wrong no one forgets

Not for me, I always run with some iron mask, I couldn't stand all that noise, prepared to miss the odd item as my hearing and sanity is more important :))

Think i will try it on my test bed in garden this morning, going detecting at lunch so will give it a test first.
May not be for me either, just wondered how much more you may get using it,but if its annoying then maybe a little discrim will help.

This is the program I have been using on my explorer II.

Does take a while to get use to, detector almost ended up in farmers pond at one stage but stick with it. Once you pick it up, you won't look back :D
Hope 2013 strikes another couple off my wish list.

Has Neil altered his programme then? Last time I talked to him was a few years ago but the slow and low programme was always ran with a smidgen of iron mask......
I use a similar programme with the SE and can't fault it you still hear some iron but a quick glance at the screen sorts that out. I wouldn't dream of using an EXP with no discrim on it.
A big mistake a lot of people make is by having the disc too high if there is any falsing wind it down until you have a steady threshold tone.

slow_n_lows program for the SE

Not for the faint hearted or the impatient !

Earphones must have volume control for this programme and not Koss.

Volume-max
gain-8
threshold tone-1
variability-10
limits-9
response-smooth
sounds-conduct
Recover-deep on : fast off
iron mask-31 or all metal 32 when in a very productive hotspot.
sensitivity-manual and keep it in 16 till your competent enough to increase it, i use 32 full whack anywhere.

Dig all low tones, medium, and high smooth tones, the highest pitch tone is the sound you get from a 1p or 2p coin 1970-80s,iron is a similar higher pitch shrieky noise, uneven not smooth etc but takes time to get used too so you have to be prepared to get through the learning curve which can take some time to learn.

If you want quiet and not much noise then dont even attempt to use this programme because as you get used to it and up the sense it gets noisy.

Swing slow 4 secs a sweep and 8 secs on hot spots and try keep the coil just scraping the surface,if you ar"nt using at least 2 or 3 coil covers a year then your not low enough.

This program can take months to learn and perseverance is the key. ::g
