I'm glad this thread wasn't just in the Minelab section as it is interesting to me but I doubt that I would have read it had it just been in that section. I'm not happy buying any detector where there is no UK (or in this case Ireland) based repair centre. Sending a detector off for repairs to foreign climes is an expensive undertaking in itself. Owners of the Blisstool now have to do this since we lost our UK based dealer and repair representative.
If they could get the individual parts or circuit boards, I think someone could make a good living repairing the various detectors that now fall into this category though I suppose they must vary quite a bit internally regarding their complexity. The only reason people send them off to the manufacturer for repair is because of the warranty but quite often the repair required isn't that difficult to carry out for someone with the right knowledge.

Very sad to hear about Minelab Ireland being closed. I suspect that they will have to make alternative arrangements for warrenty claims and repairs because otherwise it may impact on their sales. When I thought that I had a problem with one of my CTX coils a few years ago Minelab already had places in England where it could be sent for repair.

More recently when I enquired about getting my CTX serviced I was told that there are no serviceable parts, apparently it either works or it doesn't. The CTX does appear somewhat more reliable than my Ex2s, which had to go back every couple of years for various minor repairs, usually including the jackplug. I was happy(ish) to pay this as, even including postage to Ireland, the costs weren't too bad, the work was done quickly and the detectors always worked better afterwards. ::g

I can personally say that I have used Steve Cox twice in the past years... to repair my faithful old Explorer II, I can say I had great service and very reasonably priced and as I took it into him personally and collected it from him, we had a good chat and a detailed explanation of the problem... ::g

I have also used Steve for my repairs.
Once on the sovGT and again for the etrac. Fast reliable trustworthy, and will have no issues using again if required. Price was also realistic including postage.

I've found that this can happen if you post whilst other posts are submitted at the same time. A bit of a pain if you've written a lenghty post and pressed "Submit" without looking at the alert at the top of the page :D

Looking at Steve Cox web site it says he can do out of warranty on most machines but doesn't list ctx or excalibur and can do warranty repair on most except excalibur. Must be the water test. ..so what happens if you buy a ctx that's faulty under warranty? Where would you get it fixed? Or indeed, fixed, out of warranty? I suppose you could as for a refund or replacement. ..
I think some clarity is required regarding this..

A very good point Clint, as an out of warrantee repair I wouldn't be too fussed about it passing an under water test as I don't use it for that, but if in warrantee I would expect it to be done to the manufactures standard.

I would have thought that now Minelab are leaving Europe, that a service centre will pop up to service all models somewhere in Europe. I would not like to be sending a detector around the world to get it fixed even under warranty. Who would want to pay to send it to Ameraica, Australia or Malaysia. Would cost a fortune. ;;z

Hello all, I think with questions / concerns like we have here its important just to contact Minelab direct... I sent an email earlier and received this reply...

Our Authorized Service Centers will be cleared to do this testing within the next couple of weeks. So, in UK, MSR will service, repair and test both Excalibur and the CTX30303, for example.

Cheers all

mrix, I have sent you a message via pm regarding this. I sincerely hope you can clarify the point regarding service and repair centres in UK and Europe and publish your findings.
Thanking you in anticipation and with kind regards.

Hello all,
bit if an update. ..after a very, let's say generic reply off Minelab America regarding the warranty and repair backup for CTX and Excalibur machines I've had another email off Finbarr from Minelab Ireland stating that Steve Cox will soon fully capable to undertake any warranty or repair work on these models.

It is sad news about minelab pulling out of Ireland, it will knock confidence in the brand. I have moved up to the etrac but espired to get the ctx. This news changes my aspirations greatly. , why would you buy a product that at the moment cannot be repaired in the UK :-L

Have the 'glass half empty' types actually read ALL of the posts regarding Minelab support?...obviously not!

A Minelab repair/service facility in the UK, as opposed to Ireland, is surely beneficial for the numerous Minelab owners in the UK....Think(try it, it's not that difficult) about it - where would you sooner send your machine if needs looking at?
