Its good to see another traditional club availble to detectorists.

We have had a club in North Somerset for over 30 years having over 40 members.

There are no charges for our weekly Sunday digs and also a few mid week ones during the year.

All this including NCMD membership for only £37 pa.

This is the affordable way for detectorists to partake in our fascinating and addictive hobby..

I dislike seeing what has become the commercialisation of our hobby where those can afford large sums of money to detect each week are squeezing out available farms.

Fortunately we have a practice where members are requested to donate some of their finds to the farmers.

These are boxed and catalogued for Farmers and landowners to show their friends and pass down to future generations.

This practice works wonders and farmers having talked among themselves will bend over backwards when we request the chance to detect land that we have researched.

Having been in this hobby of ours for a very long time and in the home straight the above may help traditional clubs who are just forming.

Happy Hunting.

Hi,
Congratulations on setting up the new club. Looking at the comments it looks like its going really well. I am a newbie and went to my first rally at the weekend in Raddington and really enjoyed it.
I live in Taunton and im not having a lot of luck getting permissions as yet. Theres lots of farms around here and although the farmers are friendly they arent interested in having people on their land. Is the club that you have set up a closed club or would you consider new members. ?
Thanks

What a great club philosophy - it can only go one way with an outlook like that ::g I'm in the process of starting my own club, so will watch your club with interest. Best of luck to you! ::g

Hi, as previously stated we do currently have have a waiting list. We find we are more successful as a small club but spaces do become available. We have recently opened up a visitor section on our forum to help with any questions you may have. Please feel free to introduce yourself to the club members and if you are still interested then you are more than welcome to be added to our short waiting list. Find us at mdclub.boards.net.

Hi John,
let us know how your getting on with your new club mate. if you get your core members with you then you can only go upwards. let your members help you, listen to them and find middle ground. it's not a case of it's my way or the highway, we are all individuals and there is always common ground ::g
