Would it improve detecting ?

Postby celast » Fri Jan 13, 2012 10:49 am

Not sure where to post this but if I put a 9" x 12" coil on my Garret Ace 250, would it improve my detecting more than the stndard one supplied ?

I tried it last weekend. not too heavy.

I was having "trouble" with it.
But then again all the ace users and many other users were having "trouble" that day so it was probably the ground.

Im going on nice quiet pasture this weekend, i'll let you know how I get on. ;)

i use to use that coil on my garrett was my favourite out the two more ground cover and a tad deeper, definately would say it improves the finds rate but may give false identification more on iron objects i found definately improved my detecting and felt more confident using it as i were covering more ground
finds/roman brooch/11 roman coins/8 hammered/1 gold george 1st half guineau/lots of milled/many crotal bells and various other items

Possibly, possibly not. I'ts all dependent on the ground conditions you encounter on your site/sites.
Could actually hinder performance if you're searching highly contaminated/iron infested sites.....in which case you would actually be better off with a smaller coil!

Hope this helps

A ;)
