Quick tip for photographing your finds

Postby Adamguiel » Fri Jan 13, 2012 9:30 pm

Hi everyone,

just got a quick tip for taking pics of your finds if your using the flash. If you find the picture to glarey or the flash is just too bright, try holding a piece of plain white paper or somthing similar over the flash. It should diffuse the light and give you a better picture. Ive attached a couple of pictures that I took in my front room with the coins on a white piece of card while holding paper over the flash.

Hope this helps,

Adam :)

Brilliant, thanks. This saves me having to wait until morning to photo the finds for I/D as evenings are usually spent cleaning. I had never thought of doing this.

To be fair I only thought of it because I was being lazy. I didnt have the motivation to get off the sofa and go up stairs for my diffuser so improvised. Being lazy does pay sometimes :)
Glad its helping people :)

Thanks for the tip. What is the lower coin which looks like it has two polynesian figures on it?

Hi paddy,

The lower coin is an indian ramtanka temple token. I cant remember exactly but the original ones were from around 53AD I think but then they were also re-made in the 19th century. My nan found that one at some point before she passed away and I found it while sorting through her things. I hope its one of the old ones but not too sure, fingers crossed :)
