GMP rechargeable batteries - life?

Postby liamnolan » Fri Feb 04, 2011 10:52 am

Hi, I would be interested to hear from other GMP users who use recargeables - how long the batteries last before buying new ones, how many hours detecting you can expect from a full charge, how often do users charge them, which are the best ones to get and so on.
I think I am recharging too soon, keen to ensure the machine is fully powered up and I know that can actually weaken the battery life "memory".
Finally - I use the WS1's, excellent bit of kit and I know that I can get the little plug that cuts out the speaker sound and so prolongs the battery life. but is this just a simple jackplug item that I can buy from Maplins?
I have now switched to using the control box on the waist to remove the work on the right arm, makes a big difference if out more than 3 hrs.
ANY GMP tips would be most appreciated, the experts are all you out there who use the machine, Liam B-)

Liam, i purchased 2 sets of batterys for specificaly this reason..
I can run 1 set down to empty and then just pop the second set in, rotating them...
Never any worrys about running out when in the field
I also bought a charger that was capable of discharging, that way i always know the batterys are fully depleted before a recharge.........
On my Etrac i am getting approx 20 hours use on a noisy site....a bit more for my quiet sites....

I dont actually bother with rechargables. I buy my dracel+ from costco @£11 for 36 and have found I need to replace so infrequently it is ridiculous. Bearing in mind I visit Central Searchers digs most weekends so my machine does at least 7 hrs a week probably more like 20 in summer and I have only had to buy 2 lots since getting machine (I still have 16 left) back in July. I know eventually I would spend more than if I bought good rechargables, though I save on the inconvenience of having to remember to charge before a trip. Bruces idea of 2 sets is a good one though so I may rethink this in time.

Paul

Ps what I really need is a spare set of pods to keep my spare batteries in.

When i purchased my batterys from 7dayshop they came in great little plastic containers...each container fits 4 batterys and clips to the next one.......
I have them marked and rotate them as i go...
2 weekends ago they actualy broke even....they matched the amount of charges compared to the price of replacing them with ordinary batterys, so technicaly i am in profit.........

Get some of these non rechargeable energizer lithium 1.5v batteries they supposed to last the longest according to various independent surveys.
up to 7 times longer than the best alkaline batteries,so they should last you a year if you dont go detecting that much.
But i always carry energizer alkaline batteries with me also just in case.

I am prety sure there is an XP accessory for charging rechargable batteries onboard via the coil connector. Will have to ask about on CS dig tomorow.

Yes i did mate, but unfortunately they dont stock the charger anymore...
This is a shame as its an 8 pod charger, turbo and cooks my batterys in 3 hours........
I got the 16 batterys with cases and the charger, delivered for £35
