troy shadow x5hi could any 1 tell me what sort of price i should pay for a troy shadow x5 second hand thats only been used 5 or 6 times an are they any good
Re: troy shadow x5Hi Sparky, Troy X5 is a well built machine very solids.
Depth is good, quick recovery speed they run at 19khz so good on small hammies. It does pick up large iron and coke, very light you can swing it all day with no problem. As to the price, probably no more than £350. Bob.
Re: troy shadow x5I use a Troy x3 and is cheaper than the x5 but will find hammered just as well.
I have had mine 6 years and its found me 80 silver hammered, 2 gold hammered,2 milled golds and even a bronze age hoard. The x3 & x5 are good machines but like all others are not perfect and a lot of people dont know how to use thier machines. Good luck my friend.
Re: troy shadow x5I have an X5 and agree with everything said in other posts also if you get the X5 give it time as you will need lots of detecting timed to get use to it. Then you get the most from it. Also if you email Troy the maker he will always give advice as well. I swing the X5 allday and it runs on a single 9 volt power pack.

Re: troy shadow x5I had a Troy X5 and used it for 100s of hours so its not as if it did not give it a go but i have to admit it was the worst detector that i have ever used, build quality was the best and it is as light as a feather to detect all day long but its biggest down fall was its liking for iron and it makes no odds how you set the discrimination up it was a fine border line and it finally had to go.
It cost me a fortune in phone calls to the US and speaking to Troy and his trusty female side kick but i then decided enough was enough and as luck would have it someone on one of the detecting forums was looking for one and we done a deal and was lucky that i only lost £20 in the 2 years that i owned one. They are a detector that has mixed followers some praise it and other think like me its very over rated and when it 1st came out about 10 years back had a steep price tag of about £900 Re: troy shadow x5
Thats a shame you didnt get on with the X5, my X3 has been lucky for me for the past 6 years. Whats your best detector ever my friend ?
Re: troy shadow x5@Troyx3 well my T2 is my current best one as it ticks all my boxes and requirments, although my dfx comes a close 2nd even my old Silver Sabre is better than the X5 albeit its not as deep but you wont ever dig any iron with a SS
