SAXON X-1 COMMENTS PLEASE

Postby maby » Tue Mar 13, 2012 1:40 pm

Hi all
I have no experiance with metal detectors so i know this machine is not a first time users first choise but was thinking of getting one to put away untill i felt confident enough. I have the chance of buying a used one and thaught about putting it in my cuboard untill i was ready for using it. I have tried Googling it but havent found much about it so i was hoping someone with experiance on this forum could advice me. I have read that it is deep and also a heavy machine but i dont want to be the one out in the field tunneling and wearing out spades and myself whilst everyone eles is secreatly laughting. Its an English make and i would prefer to buy English and support in a small way our buisnesses. Anyway please feel free to leave your comments good or bad and do i also need a JCB to run along side of this detector.

The Saxon X-1 is not a begginers detector infact to get the best out of one i would say that you would need plenty of experiance, yes they are very deep and with that in mind are best used on pasture land.I have used one for a short time duration and i did get the hang of it but this was only due to the fact that i use the Arado120b which is a similar but not in the same league as the Saxon, they both work in a similar fashion and they are not easy to use.

Its getting use to what the basic meter and sounds are telling you is the hardest part, they are a heavy old beast to swing all day and due to the fact that they cost a hell of alot of money when new you dont see many in use.

These machines are mainly used for pasture and hoard hunting but if you can afford one they are a nice machine to have in ones arsenal,if the right one came along at the right price i would get one to compliment my 2 Arado's but i do have a 'fetish' for buying old or unusual detectors ::g

Out of interest how much was the guy selling it for,new i think they are selling for £1700 but 2nd hand they vary from £500-800 depending on the condition.

Bells and whistles are nice, but nothing will substitute for the basic understanding of the hobby.

I dont have experience with the saxon x-1 but i have had experience with the company and the owner
and he fully supported my 1980`s saxon even had spare parts for it and was happy in any way he could.

I think im one of very very few on here that uses a saxon metal detector, but i can say i love it and would never sell it, its built to last forever, every component in this guys builds are quality.
I would suggest giving the owner of saxon a call and have a chat about the X-1 im sure he will happily answer any questions you have about it, even tho he is not selling it to you :)

If i could i would buy one :)

Hi Mega B
Its gone now. This guy was asking £525 for it so £500 would have baught it. Dont even know the name of this guy. I was asking around the people i know if they knew anyone with some land so i could get some permissions and then find a local buddy and next thing i knew i was been offered this Saxon by someone who knew someone who knew someone if you understand. I do know its gone but never asked how much it went for. I did some checking up and they are like you say £1700 new but i never knew about the heavy bit. I am disabled and need to excersise everyday and this seemed like the perfect hobby and alied with that there is always the buzz of finding something that dont belong underground and belongs on your mantlepiece or in a display cabinet for all to see. I did get the grasp that it wernt for beginers so like i said would of liked it in my arsenal for when i had some hours under my belt and new how to use it to its full potential. Thanks for your helpfull advice and may all your problems be little ones

Hi smooow
Like i said its gone now. When i was first told about it i did some reserch and put some feelers out on this forum. With being brand new to MD its easy to get the brain cells doing overtime. There are so many choises to make and trying to read up all you can about the many different makes and types with some of them sounding more like you would eat or fly in it gets very confusing. After reading up about one that catches your eye and sounding good and positive dont realy make it perfect for you in reality. I would think there are pleanty of people using this site who having read up about a certain metal detector went out and baught one only to find in reality that the machine dont realy suit there needs and is not perfect for them and the next thing you know is the machine is up for sale with a GENUINE reason for selling LOL. I dont want to make the same mistake and having been offered the Saxon went about trying to find out as much as i can rather then just reading about its reviews because i think its ilegal to write a bad review so your not getting the full picture but on a forum such as this you get to find the true picture after the thin veneer of political correctness has been lifted off. Thank you for your post and input and may all your problems be little ones.
