Back detecting again!
Hi everyone,
It's been a hard few years but I'm recently back detecting again!
The following sounds like a disaster movie but it's all true...
It all started in January 2022 when I fell to the floor and had multiple seizures. A brain tumour was squashing the right side of my brain. I was rushed to hospital and once stable, they operated and removed it. I was in hospital for a month. During that time I lost lots of muscle and once home I was weak but slowly recovering. Unfortunately the DVLA don't let you drive after having fits for obvious reasons and I had to wait a year. During this time my mum passed away and I'm dealing with probate and buying the house from my siblings. I'm still recovering and the anti-seizure tablets are not helping (brain fog, mood swings and personality changes). Slowly I'm reducing the dose to stop altogether...and that's something else the DVLA don't like... Coming off medication. Another 6 months without being able to drive. Just before I get my license back... BANG! The car engine goes. It's just too expensive to fix, so the car is scrapped and we start saving up for a replacement. Forward about 14 months and it's October 2024 and my wife can see I'm getting a bit depressed with no detecting (we did hire a car occasionally and I did get out twice) so she persuaded me to sell the heavy CTX3030 and buy a Deus II. December 2024 and we have finally bought a replacement car. Bought on Wednesday and out detecting on Friday! I was like a pig in smelly stuff! Ok, so the first time out with the Deus II I only got a Georgian halfpenny and a 15th century buckle (the field has been detected for over 30 years) and lots of iron (just getting used to the signals), but I was happy as Larry! My final words... No matter how bad it seems, just keep that thought of detecting and digging in the fields and it will soon be alright! P.s. After Christmas, my second outing and I bag several Georgian coppers, buttons and two hammered silver... IDs would be very welcome. Thanks and best wishes. Matt

It sounds like life has dealt you some cruel blows,it’s really heartening to hear your positive outlook and that things are picking up.
It’s also good to hear that you’re back out detecting again and enjoying this great hobby once again.
All the best and continued success,Rich.

Morning Matt, so sorry to hear of that illness but very heartened by your recovery and I hope that carries on. Health is everything as without it we struggle. 2024 was for many of us, a year to leave behind and move forward a bit stronger
Good move to swap the machines over, the Deus may be very light in comparison but it packs a powerful punch. I use GMP prog, still have the previous GMP machine waiting in the wings for a run out again.
Detecting is a super way to recover your health, mind and body and its almost enough to just get out again and walk across the fields, by yourself or with some buddies whose friendship is also invaluable.
You have yourself set up and all good to go, so I wish you all the best and do keep us updated on your progress, Liam

Good Morning geomorphicmat, A dreadful accumulation of circumstances you've been dealt and it speaks volumes of your strength of character that you've remained so positive and determined to re-engage with life as it was previously. Welcome back to the hobby
Good Luck. Eric

Well done on fighting through very challenging circumstances.
Regardless of what you find, just being out will boost you no end.
Good Luck,
Dave.
