Hi all,
This is 30 metres from my front door.
The motto is "Sola spes mea deus" (My only hope is god) & dated 1580.
The blazon is a griffin rampant & 3 boars' heads couped.
Half of the surrounding property & ground is mine, all mine & the owner of this is a mucker !
Bon weekend !
Keef

I've just left the veg patch believing I've got a reasonable grip on what my Ace 250 is trying to tell me (found a nice nugget of grey & a Vendée button earlier in the week) am now headed off across the field towards the spring then it's back round to the barns etc.

Congratulations, although it looks as though keeping it all standing for a few more decades might be a bit of a challenge! Best of luck with the detecting.

I adore places like that. You lucky, lucky man. Even if you find nothing you are in a beautiful place. I bet you can almost feel the history

I also have a permission on land, (agricultural - vines), a friend owns in the SoF, near the town of Mirepoix. I need to plan a visit and take my detector with me.
You property / land looks beautiful and steeped in history.
Good luck. Andi

Hi all,
I've just been doing some research & it turns out that the spring that feeds my pond is known locally as the "Fontaine miraculeuse". The limestone "niche" that covers it used to house a statue of the Virgin (whatever one of those is ) & the waters were hailed to cure blindness.
It only popped up on a search as this year it ran dry as we'd had a major lack of rain in 2017.
Not sure about its ophthalmic properties as I now need reading glasses but with a bit of luck it'll turn out to be the Fountain of Youth as when we first got here our domestic supply was from the spring

Hi Saki,
I'm in the Vendée, South western France.
When I get past my initial quota of bent nails I post up all my finds
I've just started on the field which butts up to the spring.
Bon weekend

Shhhhhhhhhhhh Keef!
They'll all be wanting to come over here! I've got 600 acres just over the fence of our meadow. A bit of a new permission to start on the land round a 15th century manoir as well. I don't think I could cope with going back to the UK and having to sell my soul for a paddock or two. Of course fields are much harder to read in France. Some areas are very quiet indeed...others full of good stuff. Less 'meat and potatoes' fields, its all or nothing.
Lots of history here of course....most of it falling down. lol We are looking at moving to a house which says on the estate agents particulars 'Age of Property: 1250' as if its no biggie at all.
GMP, Tesoro Invincible, wellies.

No Panic LB,
The Tunnel gets bricked up soon
The Vendée is well known as a bit of a pauperville so I'm not expecting Earth shattering successes but hopefully the Miracle Spring could have drawn plenty of activity. Failing that I'll bottle the crystal waters & see if the MDF shop will stock it
Fossil hunting is much the same, days of finding nothing much then after a good scouring storm or two there's loads so I'm no stranger to slim pickings.
1250, that's cool ! My better half works for a french immobilier & recently sold an old converted chapel with the earliest parts being 13th century to a mate of ours, he says come & fish the lakes, I know what I'd rather be doing !
I need to retire to free up some playtime.

It's a very cool place to live & after 13 years here I still don't take it for granted but I've still not been up the donjon to take in the views. Earliest settlement here was neolithic with a nice exposed burial mound.

Haha, here it is, the earth mound has been removed (obviously ). When it was excavated they found bones, teeth, pottery & plenty of flint which would've had to be brought in as there's defo no flint round these parts.
