calling all scots residents

Post by lostandfound » Wed Feb 06, 2013 2:25 pm

I have a trip tomorrow driving from home (Tongue, sutherland) to Carlilse and back! - anyone here live near or have seen the road conditions from Inverness to Glasgow (a9 through cairngorms to stirling route if poss) I know there is a bit of snow Inverness and I am expecting ice and general wintery conditions but a heads up to the level of the conditions would be great ::g

ive seen some webcams and the general warnings on weather sites but nothing beats first hand drvers words:) ::g

Its alright from Perth down the way.

A friend of mine was up as far as Nethy bridge today too and said all the roads were absolutely fine.

Not sure what the forcast is for tonight though

Safe journey :)

Hi all

We got 8 miles before the car hit black ice and came off the road!!

That was a quick trip down sarf! :D :D :D

cars ok though and needs some tracking (so far)and drives ok,but comming off the road at 3am in the middle of nowhere was alittle annoying...

lucky we know afew people and a COLD 1.5 mile walk got us rescued and taken home and afew hours later i got another friend to pull the car out of the ditch.

Its back home and drives ok,but gonna get it checked over on monday, but id be supprised if it needed anything more than tracking!

LUCKY eh..

Oh Bugger !

How far up into Sutherland are you exactly ?

I get up to Wick and Thurso about twice a year.

My trip to Inverness and Forres was uneventful with the roads being very clear.
Mind you I did encounter a good whiteout blizzard on Slochd

Hi

Im in tongue,sutherland :D

It was all going well at first then all of a sudden while i was doing 40mph-ish the road just gave out with no sign of anything but a grey tinge on the surface (new tarmac no bloomin grit!)..

They tarmac everything else but decide to miss a new stretch of tarmac that was like a frozen pond (just didnt look it)in one of the pictures you can see a round splodge of grit alittle bigger than a dinner plate and nothing but specks of dust everywhere else.

This splodge is right where my car left the road(at the very edge)so it was really well placed NOT!!

according to the neighbour it was much worse afew miles further from the crash site and then just dissapeared!(even to the point he wondered wether to turn back from his appointment in inverness)

Lucky i left him a note warning him of the conditions on his windscreen at 5am in the morning otherwise he could have ended up in the same state.

But no body was hurt and the car seems to have made it ok(bar alittle tracking wobble)and the wheel is still inflated,so no lasting costs(hopefully)but i drove it to the shops and you wouldnt know it had come off the road(bar the tracking wobble at 40+mph)

Sent pictures to the solicitors who were organising the appointment and they are trying to get the issue sorted without us having to attend(daughters insurance payout etc)...

il chalk it down to more expieriance in those conditions:)(front wheel drive+black ice=nothing i could have done .

so im not knocking my driving skills as i drove around orkney in drifts and ice and never had a problem and it was very bad!(even had lorrys and 4x4 drivers looking at me with wonder :D

This time i just got unlucky(didnt have a good feeling before i left anyway)

thanks for the replys guys and be carefull out there ::g
