1st permission

Post by johntp » Fri Nov 10, 2017 4:46 pm

Well it must be good news week as Iv had a great result from my new letter campaign to gain permissions, I sent out my first three letters last Tuesday to farms local to me in South Wales and today I had a phone call from one of the farmers who said" be my guest, come over any time you like" my first ever permission, so it looks like I will be taking a trip over to my new permission early next week with the hope of finding some interesting bits and pieces. So it goes to show letters can work in the quest to find permissions, so give it a try, you never know your luck. Happy hunting.

Congrats .. its a great feeling isn't it .. ::g
I'm due to collect my new mapping next week ..my main farmer gives me pieces of land and I have a coffee with him once a month to bring him the finds .. he is very good at identifying very old farm machinery parts ..in fact I found an odd loop and it turned out to be a part of a bonnet latch of one of his early tractors which I still has .. that's the only piece he has wanted to keep ..
A bottle of wine is always a good gesture on visits as is a Christmas card ..now lots of local farmers r aware of me being on the local land and the odd chat in a field normally produces another offer for land ..

Anyhow keep that farmer sweet and remember he has given u a key to your hobby

Jeep us posted and good luck with your hunting

Having heard so many stories regarding letters getting no results whatsoever, it's good to hear of it working for someone. Well done, and hope you enjoy your time there.

Well I think that's me done writing letters for a while, Iv been to see both farmers now and it looks like I have about 20 fields to detect on. One with an iron age fort on it and another with a old Tudor ruin. so all I need now is a bit of good weather so I can get out there and start swinging the coil. Happy hunting to all. :D

By gor, John. Sounds like you have a lot of promise with those permissions and very well done on securing them. Looking forward to seeing what turns up in due course.
