At Last

Post by jarrett » Sat Oct 06, 2018 12:36 pm

Just got a permission, my first, only about an acre but you never know whats buried below so am over the moon and the owner just said keep an eye on the fences etc.
I said i will remove any rubbish like nails/cans etc and anything i find i will show him but he said don't worry just go ahead, looking, at old maps i think it has always been a piece of waste ground and not cultivated but an old well is next to it so maybe used as a short cut, i must admit i was despairing of finding someplace having read of others problems but this was only my second try so maybe luck but don't give up and keep trying.

Thanks for the kind words everybody and as i said before to any one struggling never give up,have found that a nearby site has been occupied since Saxon times so you never know what may turn up but if it seems promising may invest in a newer c scope detector rather than the museum piece i now have although that it not a critisism of the old girl, hope to have a couple of hours on it on Monday but just being out is good enough for me.

Well done on securing your first permission. As others have said it could lead to more land. I recently gained a permission on several fields of pasture which I've been searching on during the summer but the grass eventually grew too long to detect effectively. As I always took the time to say hello and show him my latest finds before I searched, we chatted and I mentioned the grass being too long and he promptly offered up more land for me which i never even knew he owned. If he gains your trust things like this can happen... anyway happy hunting and best of luck ::g

Had 2 hours on it Monday and came away with a 1pence and a 1963 halfpenny and dug about 6 shotties and a few cans and ring pulls which is good enough for a 25Yd square and i did not cross hatch it, although despite some recent rain only the top inch or two was wet the rest was like concrete.
