new warwickshire permission chuffed

Post by delbi1 » Thu Sep 20, 2018 3:09 pm

A friend and i have got a new permission in Warwickshire in little village with a lot of history research shows this has mainly a sheep farm and wheat with a total of 510 acres chuffed is not the word, owner says he had some metal detectorists on it a few years ago but they got out of hand bringing mates and their mates mates so wants it kept small. So 2 of us on it probably won`t need another permission for a while lol.

That's a great result and you have a very understanding farmer ::g Having had detectorists on his land that were anything but responsible or considerate, it's a wonder he didn't simply say no.
Good Luck in your searching ::g Regards ss47

Great news. We often show the farmer our finds, which they are very interested in. Best of luck.

been out on it today but wasn`t good. On the 2 small fields was alot of green waste :( the small sheep field next to it has electric fence all the way around so was like metal detecting with Tesla in next field. Not all bad though he has fields next to a Roman Villa and others by old 12th century church so will try the Roman one wednesday. today was just a feeler really but nice man and i think this permission may lead to more in the Area

Forgot to add i did find a bar of lead that looks really Old and maybe used for musket balls in civil war has local history suggests that Essex and parliamentarian Army (1642)camped up there for a day or 2 And also found a few oyster shells so i am not giving up even on the green waste fields, we planning a day to dig everything in a small area to find whats beneath

I’d have been straight on the Roman fields first :D :D
My farmer told me to pull the terminal on the electric fence, “the sheep had learnt their lesson, just remember to reinstate it before you go”
Sound like you’re detecting on my permission with your description of green waste, villa, civil war history and electric fence - all you need now is a railway line nearby :D ::g
Good luck, don’t give up on the green waste fields, you’ll be 99 rubbish to the 1 great find.

The green waste on mine is mainly foil, from the backing off plasterboard I’d guess. Some areas are particularly bad, so I have to notch it out... I know I’ll be missing some finds, but I don’t have much choice. I have a program saved, affectionately called ‘crap field’ :D
No trains there now, it was abandoned about 50 years ago, but they left all the coke behind :(

just a update on permission, Its been really hard going tbh. 1 find of note so far is a 1841 half pence in near perfect nick. Have been about 6 times but hasn`t let us on his fields near the roman villa but i think its just he wants to keep a eye on us and maybe build up trust. i Do show him ever single find good or bad am sure eventually he will let us on the fields that i think maybe more productive.

In other news just got my second permission for a orchard surrounding a church built by a knight of william the conqueror that also has reused parts of a Roman villa.

Keep the coil to the soil, the finds will come. If there's a Roman villa nearby, then you can be sure that the Romans would've been in the surrounding fields as well. Old orchards are always good places to search especially if there is a church nearby. ::g

Good luck on your new permissions. When you have got the owners trust try asking him for a reference, useful for getting other permissions.

A quick update on Permissions,
The warwickshire one is not very enjoyable with very low finds with 99% of them trash. As still not let us on fields near the Roman Villa but i won`t push him on it, will just keep showing him the Trash lol.

The Herefordshire Orchard on the other had is a polar opposite, found a 6-7thc Brooch and 3 hammered one 12th c, one 13th and one from civil war era. are loads of bits of lead so i do expect to find a bit of roman too. Seems to be a history of bullets from musket/pistol balls all the way to 1898 before the ban on lead bullets. must have dug up at least 30 other coins ranging from 1750 up to 1900. Loving this permission and still only done about 1/4 of it.Am sure this Permission will lead to more in the area too.

Hi Delbi!,
Good result on the orchard permission =P~ Some photos of your find would be great to see :D
it's a fair drive from Warwickshire to Hereford, so I bet you're pleased it wasn't a waste of your time and petrol ::g
