Is it still worth it?

Post by blacksmiths son » Mon May 20, 2019 4:08 pm

Im new to this hobby, Ive been talking to a farmhand and asked him if I could detect at a few fields over the road from me, he said he can't see no reason why not as long as I send his boss a letter which is fair enough. But then he said the field has bone done at least 3 times by other folk, Is it worth me still asking or should I just move on?

A big yes. ::g

Ask him if he has plowed it since others were detecting there.

Every time the farmers turn over the soil new finds emerge.

Happy Hunting,

Absolutely - ask the farm hand to make the introduction to the farmer, get a search agreement in place and start finding all the gold the previous detectorists have missed. ::g

I have a permission that apparently had a regular detectorist on it for many years. I'm amazed at what I find, and really can't believe what he's missed it - Small Roman, Silver hammered, copper - sadly no gold - so maybe that's all he was interested in digging :D

u;@ what they all said.
And, different times of year will give different results - even when you've done it go over the same ground again when its holding more water and use is as a chance to play with settings. The finds may be fewer but they will be there.
Good luck

I went to a field last year, my dad said was pointless. Him and his 4 friends spent half a day there 10 years ago, finding nothing. First few times there... 200 +Romans, 9 silver staters, endless brooches etc
