I applied for permission to detect on Southampton Water (Lee on the Solent to Itchen Estuary SSSi )and received a positive reply from Natural England, who were of the opinion that my detecting would be low impact and provided I didn't do any of an attached list of operations, which I wouldn't, then I was wished happy metal detecting.

Great work, SSSI`s are there for a reason however the hobby can be conducted with little/no impact in many circumstances such as avoiding nesting seasons, not digging amongst flora etc.

Good stuff, although point 11 mentions about not cutting turf. Not sure what the interpretation of this would be.
