Persistence Pays Off

Post by Westcoastdetector » Wed Oct 11, 2017 1:07 pm

Well....moving to a new area & trying to find a field or two to detect on is hard going ( as many of you know ) . I prefer to call on farmers face to face , so it was also pushing up my petrol bill :E
Anyway , to cut a long story short , after calling on numerous farms & receiving lots of knock backs ( although all the farmers I spoke to were courteous and friendly ) , I finally pulled up outside a rather quiet farm where nobody seemed to be about .
I plucked up a bit of courage and knocked on the farmhouse door ; the farmer looked a little surprised on seeing me there , but he heard me out & then started telling me about the history of the farm ::g I showed him a few of my finds , and he then offered me a couple of potato fields to detect on -=+:-P . On the way home I could feel all the frustration evaporate away , and now really looking forward to a few hours in a muddy field . I'll take him a bottle of something , just as a way of thanks [:)

Well done Damian on securing a new permission.

We're hoping for a few new ones this season ::g

Very well done on gaining a couple of fields to search-they should keep you busy for some considerable time!::g You're so right to be persistent - you've got to be out there, to get in there! :D
Good Luck. ::g Regards s47

Well done and I loved reading your story- it was as if I was there with you!
I find it difficult to explain the feeling of getting a new permission. :)

Thanks for all your comments guys ; yes...I guess frustration is part and parcel of this hobby , but the rewards are numerous...fresh country air ( notwithstanding the occasional farmyard aroma ! ) , a good walk in the countryside , and that nagging thought in our minds that maybe , just maybe , a glint of silver or gold will make our day complete [:)

Well done! I can well imaging how great it must of felt. I tried finding my own permissions also by sending out scores of letters etc, but had few returns and very little interest. Hope the new permissions brings much luck!
