Re: northern Ireland
I'm here too for the first time. Contemplating buying my first detector. More interested in the beach and rivers as I like the water. Living in Portadown and work in Lisburn but given NI' small size I'd be grateful to meet with anyone who is a bit further down the road than me.

Re: northern Ireland
Evening rossi, smudgeruk and ghound. Glad to see you are out there. I'm noticing that as I did my research on what detector to get my idea of £4-600 was being rapidly forgotten as I was becoming beguiled by the CTX 3030. Being a bit of a techie it was getting all of my attention but I was noticing that the £1800+ asking tag was really a stretch and stopping me from moving ahead as I tried to justify the 3x spend.
On the back of your kind offer ghound I was thinking the better idea may be to get started at the lower end on a similar'ish machine and then see how I go. Could I come and see the 705 in action then on the back of that all being well prob get one. I will PM you ghound to get a suitable date if that is ok with you ?

Re: northern Ireland
if the CTX 3030 is a stetch then go for the etrac, its an awesome machine and you'll get a good 1 for around £700 pre owned

Just dig it and put your mind at rest

Re: northern Ireland
thanks slowsweep that's good advice. I have seen one at £600 and one at £850. Am warming to the idea of going with that.

Re: northern Ireland
nothing wrong with a 705 for a first machine I no were theres a one at the right price with spare coils always crawl before you walk or run

Re: northern Ireland
The e trac is a great machine Scottie and once learnt you wont have to upgrade for the foreseeable future. It can be used in a switch on and go set up until you get used to it.
Try go for a machine with some warranty left if possible for peace of mind
Lots of experienced e trac users on this forum who will help you out with settings etc.
Best of luck whatever you decide

i'm using a dfx at the moment but only get out once a month (if lucky )
i hate the thought of spending big money on a detector if i,m not going to get my moneys
worth.

Re: northern Ireland
Evening all
What a helpful bunch you all are. As a result I have now ordered the CTX 3030 (I did try a few times to get an ETRAC 2nd hand but failed so have thrown the head up and gone where there is no competition, buying brand new !
Of course this now means a myriad of other supporting stuff to go with it and a pile of manual reading and YouTube watching...if there is a 'Top 5' must do in being a new dectorist I'd love to hear it
My first hunt will be on Tyrella beach as it's the nearest to me and correct me If I'm wrong (?) so long as I have the Crown foreshore permit and detect between High and Low water marks I wont fall foul of the Down District Byelaws which I came across here http://www.downdc.gov.uk/Leisure---Cult ... Beach.aspx look to the right hand side of page under 'related documents'
Hope to see you out in the wilds.
Garry

Re: northern Ireland
good choice, gr8 machine, stick with the factory pre set modes until you are familiar with the ctx and you shouldnt have any problems, it is a switch on and go machine so as long as you dont start messing with the setting b4 you know whats what you will enjoy the ctx

Re: northern Ireland
Anyone had anything nice from Northern Ireland?
I haven't been detecting in about 7/8 years but now I'm living in Northern Ireland a lot of things are drawing me back into doing some!
Currently speaking to a few farmers in my area to ge permission to have a go on their fields.
Will be getting a laser rapier I think ... had one a few years ago done me well, also had a laser hawkeye but didn't think much on it for the price tag!
Any info would be appreciated!
Cheers
