Back on the beach

Post by Beemer »

After a long break from detecting due to other hobbies I have now got the bug again. Watching storm Ciara on the news I thought it would be a perfect time to try a couple of local beaches, so I headed out yesterday morning and tried the first beach.
About an hour in and only a few coins and a couple of fishing weights to show for my efforts I assumed there had been a large quantity of sand dumped on the beach by the storm rather than taken off it, so undeterred I headed for the next beach about 20 minutes away. This time it looked more promising as quite a lot of the wooded groins were showing compared to how they normally look, and about an hour later my coin tally had doubled.
After three hours I was feeling a bit cold and the tide was coming in fast so I decided to call it a day.
My total for the morning was £9.81 in modern coins, 19 fishing weights, a small brass cartridge, part of a lead toy soldier and the normal scrap.
I hope to get down to the beaches again soon, but by chance about a week ago I was given two separate permissions from close friends which have not been detected before, so I may try those first. Either way I’m hooked again!
