Southport for a break.

Post by Pav » Thu Oct 12, 2017 4:59 pm

Going to be in Southport with the better half, whilst she is using the Spa planning on escaping to the beach. I know Blackpool but not Southport. What are the local beaches like? PI or will I need discrimination?

I also can't find tide timetables on the web far enough ahead. Anybody know when low is on 25th Oct? By my reckoning it must be about midday?

Thanks for the help. Not asking directions to your treasure spots, just a bit of local info so I know which machine to bring and if I will have to do the drive to Blackpool or if the sands at Southport offer some fun.

Cheers.

Sorry wrong end of the country for me.

I use the link to try and plan ahead but use a local tide table which just covers 7 days only which gives more local locations.

Not tried Southport. Most of the beaches around Blackpool are best with a multi frequency machine or PI. North of Blackpool there are a few the a normal VLF will work okay. Had success at fleetwood only spent an hour or so but got a few pound coins so not done to death. Plenty of iron on the beaches north of Blackpool so PI might not be ideal here.

Hopefully someone can fill you in on the lower beaches

Southport has a strange beach. They say the tide never comes in there, as you can't see the sea as it is that far away.

When I was a kid they used to park all their cars on it.It is huge.

In the 1920's Sir Henry Segrave broke the World land speed record there as the beach is so vast.
