Filey Beach - Loss Of Sand

Post by sweepstick47 » Sat Mar 03, 2018 11:41 am

Just heard that Filey Beach (N.Yorks) has had the sand stripped from it (3/3/18).
I assume similar conditions will exist on the neighbouring beaches of Scarborough and Bridlington.

Heavy snow and bitterly cold winds here in Niederkruchten-Elmpt! Good job I'm a northern lad :D
Regards ss47

That won't do me any good mate. I will be about 60 klicks to the east of you for the week! I'm a soft southern lad so I hope the wind stops and it warms up! :D

I have a lot of very happy memories of Filey when it was last striping off Nov 2012 to April 2013 l;. We cleared, by my reckoning, well in excess of 100 gold rings and coins off that beach with thousands of other coins and artifacts, some even got the odd Roman broach as well. I used to say that if you did not find Gold then your detector was not turned on.

There was regularly half a dozen and more off of this forum down there at weekends and we had a great time. Just do a forum search for Filey and look for the posts during that period.

Called in to Filey on Tuesday but only parts of the top of the beach were stripping off, just a fraction of what stripped in 2012/13. The only finds were modern coins with quite a few old pound coins on the area the old locals called "The Tents" https://www.francisfrith.com/filey/file ... 950_f23122 Further down the beach the sand was still deep, the big boulders that are there were still not showing.

Not been to Scarborough silverwood but have seen pictures of parts that have had sand completely stripped off against the sea wall a couple of weeks back.

Filey was still stripping off on Monday when I went, met a couple of other guys on there who were finding only mostly modern coinage. They were no reports of gold coming off and the general consensus was we did a good job on clearing that the last time it stripped.

At the moment Scarborough is looking sad for itself on the South Side. Foreshore Rd has been severely damaged by the high storm tides and another landslip has occurred near the area of the loss (due to a landslide) of the Four Star 'Holbeck Hotel' back in 1993. Regards ss47
