Wet sand

Post by Talek » Mon Apr 16, 2018 7:00 pm

After a few trips to the beach with my first detector I am learning a lot but still have a lot to discover.

One thing I am wondering is does the wetness of the beach sand effect the sensitivity of the detector? I have a very basic detector, a Viking 7MX, and was wondering if the sensitivity and/or depth for detection would be different on the dry sand at the top of the beach as compared to the wet sand nearer the sea?

I'm not sure why this would be so but I am keen to learn all that I can. :)

The wetness doesn't directly affect the sensitivity of the detector. The detector is likely to detect the mineralisation caused by the salt water though. To counteract this you may have to turn down the sensitivity on the machine to make it stable enough to detect on wet sand. ::g
