With drawl systems from detecting

Post by Swingbing » Tue May 15, 2018 3:36 pm

Took my garrett carrot on holiday this week to Cyprus. The carrot is used for when I'm snorkeling but could not sleep so hunted out a stick and taped the garrett to it and went for a early morning hunt on the beech by using the probe flat covered more ground...six coins within 5 min..one silver .
Happy days.

Whilst serving in Cyprus some years ago, metal detecting there was heavily restricted and at a later stage banned. Metal detectors found by customs were reportedly confiscated at the point of entry. It would be sensible to assume that in law, a 'pin-pointer' would be considered a 'handheld metal detector'. I'm not sure if there were additional penalties.

It's worth a 'google' to ascertain current legislation there before travelling with a detector. ::g

It would appear you are a very lucky fella. Metal detecting in Cyprus is strictly forbidden and there are regular arrests made for those detecting without a permit allowing them to legally own a detector and the paperwork to use it on the 3 or 4 authorised beaches.

Well the beach I was on was owned by the hotel offers which permission was granted however after some of yr replies I made some enquiries. Spoke to hotel manager which made a phone to his brother.in.law who is part of the archaeological deparecent and his reply was as long as yr not looking for old stuff and just modern they don't care...if you have a metal detector which is a search device then don't like even looking for modern as it can be seen as intent.pinpointer ok as it only have minimum depth and it not a search device it's to pinpoint/ locate. As long as yr not within 500 meters or feet can't remember of a ancient site ok.The beach I was on all the land right down to the beach has been a building site so all archaeological checks should have been carried out before building.
