Crown Estate Foreshore Permit query

Post by Jel » Mon Apr 23, 2018 7:22 pm

My eyes are pretty rubbish so excuse me if this has been covered.
I'd had 'foreshore licence but it had expired so i applied on-line only a few weeks ago. I was sent an email by Crown Estates stating that they weren't granting any licences at the moment because of admin' problems but to read the terms and conditions. I clicked on the link which then had several others. One shows a map of GB with a purple line indicating where you can detect. Hope this helps!!

Hi you no longer require a license on Crown Estate beaches. However some are leased and others are covered by local bylaws so don’t rely solely on the Crown Estate’s maps.

I am a newbie so excuse my ignorance.

What is the position regarding metal detecting on beaches owned by the National Trust?

Kind regards,

Gwyn

NT have a complete ban on detecting.

Hello 'Optimistic Jack', ::g You will need to contact the NT with details of the specific location you are enquiring about for their consent to use your metal detector on the nominated beach area.
Not sure about their beaches but they rarely give consent to use a metal detector on their inland areas of responsibility. With that in mind, I wish you good luck and would ask you to please keep us informed of any decision made. Many Thanks. Regards ss47

Thanks jcmaloney.

Made a few local enquiries this evening which has revealed the beach is not National Trust land which should make things easier.

Kind regards,

Gwyn

Local councils that are located in costal areas often list parts of the coast that are excluded .
Cumbria coast between Bootle and ravenglass are excluded . as an example .

Your confusion is understandable, there are many posts here and elsewhere telling you that a crown permit is required. However, that advice pre-dates a recent change in policy by crown estates. They no longer issue an actual permit but their website will explain what you can and can't do.
