Strip off!

Post by stupot » Thu Dec 27, 2018 12:29 pm

Spoke to a fisherman friend who lives nearly 2 hours away, we have fished several times this year. He sent a photo of the local beach with all sand stripped in an area of about 100 yards long but quite narrow. Had to decide if it was worth the trip that distance. The sand the holidaymakers sit on all summer has moved and piled up against a groyne. Decided to go andleft at 6am & as expected there was a large number of coins. Used the Equinox with small coil because of the huge amount of ironwork which was perfect combination. Total was 80 odd coins on the first pass and another 30 going back over again. Everything sat on clay with a few inches of sand and stones and large iron. A ring finally emerged which I had apparently booted out with an iron bar. Spotted on the second pass, its a white 18 (not rhodium plated) & comes up in the silver paper range. Very large iron has to me moved out of the way as always covers stuff up. Only other item was a pewter Roman 'coin' button (lower left in picture) A few broken lead toys, buttons and a couple of pounds of non-ferrous. Four pre-47 silver tanners and shilling plus a number of old pound coins, a handful of new pounds over a tenner (not shown as in tumbler) I understand the area has already received a new layer of sand in the last day so it was exposed for four days only.

Even without the ring, worth going for that amount and value of coins.
Well done ::g

hello, nice lot there, that roman on left looks interesting to, am sure the gold ring value would pay for the journey, worth another go before the sand and tide covers it back over
