Last session to ring in the New year

Post by Tomo » Mon Dec 31, 2018 4:24 pm

Managed a few hours down the beach yesterday mainly to get some fresh air and exercise after catching a horrible man flu bug after boxing day and was good to breath normally again and be out of the house. Few bits of junk bling came out along with the usual clad, lead and bullets and then what looked like a pink uncorroded junk ring. After giving it a quick wipe, the pink stain came off and the yellow and ice shone through. Couldn't see a hallmark and the band split in one place when I wiped the stain off.
Once home I dropped it in 9ct acid to clean it up. It looks like it's been resized were the hallmarks were and joined back together. I wasn't too sure of the carat but it did look very yellow so gave it a test with 14ct then 18ct and finally 22ct. None of them affected it so I presume it's high carat with ice and a nice little bonus to finish the year off ::g

Well done. With a stone likely to be 18ct. Higher than that is too soft for a setting to last. ::g I have been getting loads of coins but no jewellery. :D
