This is probably my best beach find ,solely because its dated so exact July 10th 1896 I wonder what it meant to the owner.

No idea on my best find from a beach, But My best and worse find from a River. Was a 11c piece of carved walrus Ivory. with a brass handle, Called a flabellum. Or a Fan used in Churchs. on one side was a carved dragon on the other a Angel pushing a plough. Now the bad bit there was about 6mm broken from the end, It was looked at by 2 London Auction houses who both said The good news is its worth about £700+, The bad news, If it was not damaged £20,000. This was back in 1986 when £20,000 would have gone a long way towards buying my 1st house. It was sold for a very good price, But I still wish I had never dug the thing. Never even asked for a pic. Think that's one of the only items I ever dug. where I knew there was no chance of digging another! ;;z

I rate the cannon just because of the condition it came of the beach in, I Did not rate the William 111 Guinea, But my digging partner thought the opposite as usual, so I let him have it,

It's always nice to find local items, I have a lot of local Victorian bottles from sites all round the town. keep hoping I will find some local 17c trade tokens on the beach, Nearest so far has been a rose farthing! ::g

Pity we did not take pics of the bell when we dug it Mark, It was in a massive lump of black crud! We could just see part of the bottom edge, I will put that tiny silver Brooch buckle on for you to see

no name on it just the number 12 stamped on the top,
it was very heavily encrusted when found
we could only just make out what it was,
it must have been in the water for a long time
i would love to no how long, and where it came from.

The clay pipe is a amazing find, I do a lot of river digging and Bottle dump digging and have only ever had the smaller later pipes complete. The odds of a complete example on a beach must be near impossible. Bet it was hard keeping it intact the time you carried on detecting. ::g

Stu yeah its pretty incredible find ....never even found any part of a pipe before so i was soo chuffed especially as on the beach i never worry about how i dig the holes
their had been some big storms just before i found it and there was a lot of new sand on the beach ...the pipe had a lot of black staining on it but was in clean sand so i'm guessing it had been buried for a while and had been churned up in the storm and deposited at the top of the beach ...how it survived that let alone me digging it up is amazing
