Hallmark ID required 8/11/18 Vulkan No.1 Patent & Silver sweetheart Brooch

Post by Saki » Sun Oct 14, 2018 3:50 pm

Out on two sites yesterday. Very close to each other, First site is beside a late 17th, early 18th Century Coastguard Station on a ploughed field. And my first find was the silver Sweetheart brooch, sadly it was broken but together. It's very very small but beautiful. There is a hallmark on it but cannot for the life of me make it out.
My other site is near an old ships pier. (lots of flencing knives been found here)
VULKAN No.1 Patent Does anyone recognise it?

Brooch was only 3 inch on ploughed and levelled ground.

Machinery plate was 8 inch on untouched boggy ground.

Both using 400i with nel coil and Garrett carrot

I really will try and get a photo of the hallmark. Love this little brooch. Especially after the re-searching earlier this week for a members posting of a "mariners cross"

Dave, your a star :D
This makes so much sense "lifting machinery, hoists and reversing gearboxes" and the year fits perfectly for the works being done here around 1901-1912
