Bird ID please

Post by Guybrush » Tue Jun 12, 2018 2:49 pm

Hi,

Can anyone ID this bird shaped item for my dad please. It's copper alloy of some kind and looks like it's meant to be attached to something with the head forming a kind of hook.

Cheers

James

Interesting find.
Probably wrong, some kind of ornate coat hook ?
Hopefully something else.

That looks rather nice. Can you show us the underside?

It looks like a Roman escutcheon or bucket mount. I’d say a swan.

Could be very wrong though x;

Thanks for the link. Looks quite similar although I'm not sure it's as chunky. The base plate's only a couple of mil thick. I think I need to do so more investigation.

Cheers

Appears to have traces of gilt & enamel left on it so maybe some sort of harness pendant or mount??
