Grey Squirrel Pendant??!! (NEW PHOTO ADDED)

Post by HolzHammer » Tue Jun 12, 2018 3:58 pm

Hello All,
I am hoping this is a bit earlier than the grey squirrel introduction era( the less said about that the better...) though it does look like one - or maybe a cat..? and please excuse lack of proper scale - found 8"deep pasture N.Devon - I really like it...
Any knowledge gratefully accepted and much appreciated.
All the B
Alexander

Looks more like a dog to me. Can you do a close up image of just the pendant?
I saw an accident in my rear view mirror the other day.
Or 'my son' as the wife insists I call him.

I think you are right - you are all going to be furious with me but I am VERY sensitively chipping away around the enamel and the animal is very svelt with round ears - I won't go too far and will post another photo soon...

A cocktail stick or a thorn is good for getting into the tight spots-
And soft enough not to damage the piece.-unless the patina is ‘crumbly’...
(Where there is one pendant there may be more!)

Very, very nice find. I too will await the reveal of it, post clean, especially as it sounds like some of the enamelling is intact :D

I'm definitely leaning towards it being a cat now. Any chance of a close up of it?

Certainly has the loins, the demeanor and the tail of a big cat.

Personally I would avoid any further cleaning until you have shown it to your FLO and taken their advice on preservation.

Cracking find, very well done.
Wandering off to the fields with my Makro Racer 2.

Although, I enjoyed the walk with my Bounty Hunter Tracker IV!
