Couple of big bits of lead for ID help please

Post by Stillburning » Wed Jun 13, 2018 4:53 pm

Today I resumed my search of the spoil heap with the soil that was dug out of the farmhouse floor.

There were a couple of copper coins and some other smaller items that are soaking in lemon juice to try and clean them, and a couple of pieces of lead window frame, one with a fragment of glass still attached.

Not sure about these two, the item on the left is lead alloy, the one on the right lead, are they related to the house or just random scrap? Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks for looking ::g

My first reaction to the object on the left is that it is part of a spoon bowl. Is it lead or pewter?

I would tend to agree re the spoon, if it's crumbly, then pewter and modernish. The other item no idea but looks good.

The item on the right looked to have holes suggesting it was nailed to a stick or staff. Perhaps it is the weighted end of a throwing stick?

Thanks for the comments ::g

I thought the item on the left was lead alloy, could be pewter, what is left is solid and not at all crumbly - I did think it looked spoon like but is the handle not at 90 degrees to where it should be?

The big lump could work as a throwing stick (not sure how widely they were used?)- or a priest.
