ID for thin cut silver strip, strange shape, sharp edge.
I found this item on a farmers field 8+ deep, it reads on my AT pro at 66, it measures 4cm L, 2.4cm W, very thin like a blade. It doesn't feel too light, nor heavy for its size. When I dug it I thought it was scrap, but then thought it might be silver, but at 66 it is unlikely isn't it? Hopefully someone can give me a better idea of what this is, thank you:).

Re: ID for thin cut item, maybe some sort of blade head?
The one end vaguely looks like a key hole. Possibly part of a door lock ?

hello, you often find bit of old farm machinery or other machine parts as often they broke down and fixed in the field

Yes I would go for farm machinery related, based simply on where you found the item. As for being silver ... using the Deus, silver can come in anything from 55 to 97+ depending on size, shape and metallurgy. Its impossible to say whether a blackened item is silver or not from a photo, but my feeling is that your item is not silver, I would try the tin foil test, are you familiar with this?

Ad it seems to be silver from the test and looks thin as you say .... you also need to consider the holes in it .... by that I mean .... although it may be something in its own right it may also be someone that has had a couple of things cut from it that would go on to become things made of silver and you are left with the source sheet.

Assuming it was an oval originally I would suggest something like a silver id tag maybe?

Assuming that bits were hack sawed out for some other purpose, with the resultant "trashed" item being discarded... but total conjecture.

cheers everyone who has replied to this thread to help me. I think after reading your comments that it may be waste off a cutting, but just sounds mad how silver could be seen as leftover discard. I am curious about the lighter idea, it opens a lot of possibilities.

It would seem prudent to clean the item carefully and inspect it with a jeweller's eye glass/lupe in order to check for the presence of an Assay/mint mark. If present, it could well produce more relevant information regarding it's origin/use. Good Luck
