Tent peg or Iron age pin ?

Post by mace247 » Thu Aug 09, 2018 5:08 pm

Hello

A soggy afternoon in the drizzle on the Roman field - Deus on hot program as per normal, fantastic signal on the first few swings saw this pin pop up.....

Now, is it something good or a tent peg... not had any real modern rubbish on this field all roman / medieval.

What do we think ???

More like a bucket handle x; too long for a tent peg and too new for Roman. I think it was a good quality bucket though ::g

Forget the bucket. I just looked at the measurement again ! Now I’m miffed !

Buy if the scratch shows a silver metal

consider it an easy fettle!!!!

Looks more like a fence loop, you know the bit that fits through or round a farmers fence post to fasten the fence wire to. Similar to a vine eye.

I think that it has a good age to it. Unfortunately I've no idea what it is though. ::g

No idea what it is but I’d show it to your local FLO. I suspect it might be something far more interesting than it appears to be, especially if it’s from a field with known Roman activity.

Let us know if you get a positive ID?

Yes,I think it's a copper alloy, it's got some weight to it and is very tactile. The end goes to a flat surface rather than a point.
