Saxon mount ?

I found the above on a barley stubble field and it was caked in brown gunk from top to bottom.
I have slowly removed some of this and have now revealed some design work. There is a lip on the bottom of this and I have taken a reverse side pic to show this.
However I am a) unsure if it is Saxon work b) what it would have been used for and c) should I carry on and remove the rest of the brown gunk (even though what is on there is helping in the relief.
All opinions valued and trust some of you getting out now that the barley and wheat is coming off ::g
I used the standard 9" Deus coil and used the hot programme P9
Cheers !

Looks like a stirrup mount to me similar to this https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts ... /id/901262

Sodium Hexametaphosphate (10% solution) is good at dissolving encrusted clay soil. Soak for 5-10 minutes. With copper alloy though if the soil did not come off by normal washing you will probably find it was stuck on by corrosion.
