Unusual teardrop button?
Found on a stubble field at 4 inches. I assume it is a button but can find any reference to this teardrop shape apart from the Roman ones which this design may be later based upon. Made of cast solid copper alloy incorporating a separate loop shank. It is quite small at 9mm diameter x 15mm long and has a bit of a Medieval look about it and appears to have file marks on all the edges. Any reference to similar or idea about age?

Re: Unusual teardrop button?
It looks like an ordinary tombac button which has been modified for some long forgotten reason.

It does now you mention it, that's probably it.

I often forget that finds may have been modified.

Re: Unusual teardrop button?
Hi K, I also considered the possibility of being a cuff link but due to no very similar reference I think most likely a filed down broken tombac button, perhaps it was made into a cufflink?

Looks like someones poor attempt at making an "Iron" shaped piece for the game of monopoly

Re: Unusual teardrop button?
Is it just me, or does the twisted shank look maybe a bit too large / chunky for a typical button? Thoughts that it might be part of some sort of toggle for fastening heavier materials than clothing - but no idea what...
