Bronze core of a Cunobelin Stater

Post by mace247 » Tue Oct 09, 2018 3:39 pm

Hello everyone

Out on a brand new field and a first for me which I think is a celtic bronze.... Using the usual Deus hot program on the old V3 setting got a good but 'shotgun' sounding ping - really pleased to see its a coin

Its got a wheat sheaf and an M on one side and a celtic horse and CVNO on the other. Its a very thick coin so I'd say bronze/copper alloy, but I haven't really cleaned it yet

If anyone can tell me the sort or type that would be great

That's actually very nice mate, love it, I wonder if the gold plate helped to protect it, nice detail ::g

Surly that’s rarer than an actual gold one?

I didn't know they did, but apparently they gilded items in the early bronze age!

I suppose there was always trade and foreign visitors way before the Romans came to learn from, so I shouldn't be surprised really.
