I’ve had a secret for a few days....updated!!

Post by Emily » Wed Oct 10, 2018 8:16 pm

Good evening all!!

I’ve had a secret for a few days....I wanted some alone time with it...I hope you’re not mad....

An ID would be wonderful if possible.

It was found on a piece of land that is fabled to be the location of a Saxon settlement, however I don’t think this is Saxon.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. :)

Have you done an imprint of the ring as it looks like a seal maybe

No I haven’t. I’ve only got bluetac, and I don’t know if that will damage it or the patina....

Lovely find l;. Re the BluTak, the archies don't like it but its fine in my book h;@ ::g Well found and I understand your "bonding" with that item which will have had a very special bond of its own with the wearer all that time ago, Liam :;@
PS - use a wooden toothpick to clear out the inscribing, no need to clean with water. Wonderful rich medieval patina that needs to be left alone.

My initial thoughts were of Roman, but only guessing.
Is it bronze? Almost looks silver in some light
Very very nice

My first thoughts are that it is bronze, but it is quite thin, and doesn’t weigh very much, so I’m not 100% sure....are there any tests I can do without damaging it??

Blu Tac has always been perfect for me and left no residue or altered the patina but you may feel safer to just use plasticine instead ::g I use tons of Blu Tac in my racket customising work (like balancing wheels) and so I always have lots lying around ... Liam ;)

If you're like me and really impatient you could make some play dough, we used to make it with the kids all the time. There's a recipe on this link. Obviously you can cut the quantity down.

Dare I throw in my first thought, or should I look for the barge-pole ?

I thought the pattern looked a bit ‘Runic.

OK pretend I’m not here. Great find Emily ::g

If that is an Anglo Saxon runic ring, and I rather think that it is, then it might be terrifically important. It is in lovely nick so under no circumstances do anything further with it until the FLO has had a look. Please, please, please! :D

Looks like a early medieval ring by the possible working face design to me.
