They told me I’d never be any good at poetry, because I’m dyslexic, but so far I’ve made 3 jugs and a vase.

Put a thin smear of olive oil on the Blu Tack first and it won't stick to the design.

At first glance it looks more Medieval than Saxon, however, it could be earlier. I don't think they are runes as they are poorly executed and at an angle but they could be Psuedo runes which were used in later Saxon times by illiterate people. It's a really nice intriguing find. Well done.

You could try the blu-tac and cling film thing that was suggested the other day.
I saw an accident in my rear view mirror the other day.
Or 'my son' as the wife insists I call him.

Possible Rune ring print

Post by Emily » Thu Oct 11, 2018 6:18 pm

Well I’ve tried my best to make a print of it in blu tac, and have edited the image so the lines look clearer.

I hope this is helpful and helps people make an ID. :)

Hi Emily,
One thing I’ve maybe noticed with the close up of the ring
Is the amount of apparent wear to the upper edge in the photo.
Could have been worn for a Long time.
The single border disappearing at the top might support that....
Or maybe it was always like that having been cast that way?
It’s a beauty either way

I suspect it won't help with an ID - but as Fred said - it could be something special - stop using BluTac and show it to the FLO!

Hi Emily. Hope you don’t mind, I’ve attached a pic of some Rune Stones I’ve had for more years than I care to remember. Would have posted last night but couldn’t find them.
There are a couple that vaguely resemble marks on your ring ?
It looks to be Bronze so maybe not much chance of you loosing it to a Museum bottom drawer.
Must be worth an EMail to your FLO.

I’d settle for it in my collection any day, lovely :D

p.s. 3rd down on left,if I remember, means ownership.

Hello Emily ::g A very interesting ring which appears to have some age, as said certainly one for the Flo to see. Good Luck - Regards ss47 ::g

If that is an Anglo Saxon runic ring, and I rather think that it is, then it might be terrifically important. It is in lovely nick so under no circumstances do anything further with it until the FLO has had a look. Please, please, please! :D
Ho Fred, an Anglo Saxon runic ring?? Really?? So should I not do an imprint?? I have another secret. I found another one a couple of feet away....

Bits of the patina are coming off on the blutac, I wouldn't do it any more, you can see more red spots on the ring in the latest photos and bits of the surface stuck on the blu tac.

Hello :) don’t worry, the ring didn’t come in direct contact with the blu tac. :) there was cling film between them. :) the colour difference is just the light. :)
