Nice buckle for ID please.

Post by janner53 » Wed Nov 07, 2018 8:26 pm

Dug this what I assume is a small buckle of some sort. I can't find it in any of my usual reference places so i was wondering if any of you have come across one like it.
At first I thought it was tarnished silver, but now I think its pewter. Feels heavy for its size and it does look old.
Found with my Deus on pasture around 5 inches deep in Somerset.

Nice find and in great condition if it's indeed pewter. ::g
I'd guess a Jacobean shoe buckle, but I have no expertise to back this up :D

They told me I’d never be any good at poetry, because I’m dyslexic, but so far I’ve made 3 jugs and a vase.

Did some more googling this morning and I think I'm getting close.

A very similar one here on the PAS website...

Found this one on the PAS Database. No.SOMDOR-DA1AE6

Very much the same, though not identical, dated 1707 +

The colour and texture of that buckle looks the same as mine Ladybird. Had a look at your link and it says that one is made of sheet silver. As i said in my original post I thought it looked like silver or pewter.
