Lead egg, belt mount, whistle and coins

Post by Swany » Fri Nov 09, 2018 5:41 pm

Guy’s, out today in Scotland, Nox 11”, permanent hilly pasture near a castle, a new field to me.
A strange lead egg / weight 4” in length, weight 1.3KG, the hole goes all the way through end to end.
A few nice buckles 18th century?
A belt mount, I think.
Lead weight 55.57 grams
Strange handle thingy.
Nice whistle, no signs of casting seams.
1862 Napoleon something.
A couple of George II’s
1947 sixpence, so no silver left in that then 😊
Finally a strange coin no idea on this 21mm diameter last one, last pic x;

Thanks for looking ::g

The French coin is Napoleon III Dix Centimes, I only know this because I found a 1855 one yesterday ::g

Stubby whistles are generally 19th century. I found one a while back. Cute things rarely/ never with the reed or pea still intact.

All in all a lovely selection of finds. Nice to see a 19th century french coin too. That site looks interesting ::g

I have an almost identical lead egg

mines 100% a fishing priest. You can faintly see where there was leather binding around it.

Lead weight could be a counterweight? I was at a chateau in France on holiday this summer, in their old kitchen they had a counterweight system to turn the spit (saves on children and dogs!). Your weight reminds me of that - and the handle could even go with it, to crank it up again when it reaches the floor...

Nice finds, hope the next field is just as good (or better)
