Another Roman Possibly Faustina II As

Post by Needahand » Wed Nov 21, 2018 4:37 pm

Hi all, still practicing my IDing on Romans. Am I right in thinking this is a Faustina II As. It was found right next to a Marcus Aurelias Sestertius this weekend, and as she was his wife it would make sense being from the same period. It has amazing detail on it although appears a bit battered. Must have been fairly new when dropped some time about 1,900 years ago. Think I must have caught it with the spade unfortunately and took off a bit of the patina.

Found with Equinox 600
Field 2
approx 8 inches deep
decent signal in the low twenties
pasture
Buckinghamshire

Ah, so the auntie of Marcus Aurelias, not his wife (could have been awkward, not that the Romans cared much). So pretty much the same period. Is it an "As"?

Thanks very much, getting closer with my IDs although there was some pretty clear detail on this, as there is on most of the coins coming up from these fields rather than the usual grots. Looking forward to going back this weekend to rescue some more (hopefully)
