Part of a silver nail cleaner. Nice( ish) Roman coin

Post by Me and my boy » Wed Dec 05, 2018 6:03 pm

Just done a couple of sessions over the last too days. It’s wet out there🐳
I did a dryer session yesterday on a Roman permission and got a few little Romans. This was the nicest. I think it’s Constantine, measures 22mm. I initially thought it was a ship half penny as it was so muddy. It’s been soaked for a day and scrubbed with the wife’s tooth brush( when she wasn’t looking😂)

Day two, today.
I did a quick session on old sticky and wet eaten out turnip field where I’ve had a few medieval bits in the part and some edward pennies. This came up right in the middle of the area, but I think it’s post medieval.
Is it the end of a silver nail cleaner? And ideas as to era?
Shallow find.

Are you sure the nail cleaner isn’t actually a boot (or button) hook thing like this https://www.thebuttonhooksociety.com/collecting.php

Scrap that - it isn’t quite right. But it has that feel about it.

Thanks all for reply’s
Looking at its design I would think Victorian but only guessing.
May not even be a nail cleaner.
Thanks also for the link Oxgirl.
It is really lovely in the flesh, shame it’s only a bit of it.

Hadn’t thought of that. I’ve just googled it and that could be the answer. Thanks
