Vespasian denarius...?

Post by HolzHammer » Thu Jan 10, 2019 8:21 pm

Evening again!
After my Caracalla triumph(!) this should be a shoe in... its also one of the best coins I've ever found I am thrilled with it... any advice on a gentle clean much appreciated - bar a simple wash with a bit of soap and warm water I've done nothing to it but would love to know if the black round the old fella's nose can be lifted...
Anyway, disced field, Herts - a good 7/8" down - gave a solid but unattractive squeak with the deus (35x v5.2 18khz - I feel I'm really getting the hang of it this set up now). Shirt on me back its a Vespasian denarius, Fortuna reverse.
Any knowledge much appreciated.

The detail on your coin is brilliant.
I wouldn't suggest doing any other cleaning. Just enjoy it as it is.

What a beauty. I would leave the black as it’s part of it Age and how it was stored safely all these years in the ground. If however you want to get it gone. Dremel with corse grinding disk that’ll do it 😮. Joking.

Little bit of tin foil with spit. Sounds gross but it should do it. Don’t over do it though.

Well done

Excellent recovery, I would leave the coin as it is as the black area is only small and doesn't detract from the beauty of it ::g

What a beaut!
I would leave it as it is and certainly not try to remove dark spot as that will be ingrained.
Well found.
