Ha'pennies and a hare? Any ideas please?

Post by RossDG » Mon Feb 11, 2019 3:23 pm

I braved a cold and windy early saturday morning on a pasture hillside permission; tested Screwfix thermal waterprrof gloves, albeit with handwarmer pouches tucked inside - worked a treat! Lots of tiny lead, a roman grot, a few bronze bits and pieces, nice George V Florin in very good order and the two half pennies below - William 3rd and ?George II with a hole in the top (both had a clear signal at 22 on the VID).
Then cracking signal at 28 one way, 30 the other, 6 inches down a large hammered silver coin...at first glance, but alas no a button (orry no scale, but exactly the same size as an old 1D), not as exciting as I first thought, but intriguing with the running rabbit or hare; I am assuming a hunting button of some kind, but any ideas?

Nox 600, field 2, sens 21, Fe bias 2, recovery 3. Volume quite high due to wind noise!

Thanks all

The button will probably be a hare coursing one. Can't read the initials clearly but it will probably come from fairly near to where it was found. ::g

Thanks Allectus - this field seems to hold quite a few, the field next to it none - just roman stuff!

My daughter would go nuts over the button - she's just mad as a hatter about anything to with bunnies!

(She is 7, so I think that's allowed :))

What are the letters? WSC? Something something Coursers?

Aww bless her - definately allowed, I have to say that I am fascinated by hares, love watching them!

I think the letters are WSC or WFC. Being in West Dorset the W could stand for West, Weymouth or similar.
I will be cleaning it a little moe but don't want to damage the remaining silver plate.
