Another flint Arrow head.

Post by Me and my boy » Thu Nov 14, 2019 6:59 pm

How lucky am I.
Whilst working for a customer I was asked if I would mind walking their dog, which I jumped at. The dog and I walked through the woods and out into the fields. I couldn't believe my luck when I saw the field was flat and sprayed off of any weeds.
I’ve walked this rough area before thinking that there would be Bronze Age stuff in the area and always looking for worked flints, without any previous luck.
I was only about 50 yards into the field and I saw a little white flake of flint. Bending down to pick it up I could believe my luck, An almost transparent white flint leaf shaped arrow head. Or is it a small spear?
I would guess at Neolithic.
Sorry will add scale when kids are in bed.

It’s getting to the point I dread reading what you’ve found.
I can’t believe this latest one. It’s an absolute beauty and, I would guess, well worth showing to your PAS rep.
The colour is stunning. I bet someone was very up-set when it broke.

A real specimen find, lovely.

Thanks Ladybird, it’s a beautiful colour.
I was trying to imagine what was being hunted when it got lost. Maybe a deer in the long grass which was missed and then some Neolithic person walking around trying to find it. I can hear him now. “damn it, damn it”

Thanks Oxgirl,
I was just thinking the same about how to mount it and never thought about backlighting it. Love the idea.
My wife laughed when I told her I was thinking of doing so with it. Some people just don’t appreciate the pure beauty of a 5000-6000 year old stone, worked by mans hand to a high degree of craftsmanship, treasured and sadly missed when lost. Then this delicate/fragile unbroken flint from
a field ploughed for hundreds of years gets re found and re treasured. Definitely deserves such treatment.
Thanks for the great idea.
Ps Ive had too much celebratory booze.

It's a beautiful piece.
On my bucket list.
I'll make a nice box frame for you to mount it in.
Backlighting and a bit of spiel about the find would look nice in a frame.

Cheers my friend.
You’ll find one one day. When you stop showing me one of these thinking they are worked.

What are they? I’ve found one similar plus one rounded on the top and shiny underneath from being worn smooth. Don’t know where it is but I should find it ::g
