My best Romans that need an ID

Post by Odinn » Tue Dec 03, 2019 6:49 pm

Hi all,

These are the best of the bunch which I have unearthed recently on the father in laws farm.

Found on ploughed land in Dorset. None have really been in close proximity to each other, so alas no hoard to be found. They've mostly been one or two in each of the large ploughed fields. Most of the others I have found are toasted. These are the best of the bunch that I would like a definitive ID. Trying to ID Romans completely baffles me.

Using the Garrett Euro Ace in custom mode. All of the ferrous notched off, and sensitivity normally one or two from top.

I have some ideas on a couple of them, and the larger Allectus coin appears to be a forgery, as it still has some silver plate showing.

Thanks allectus! I figured you would get the Allectus coins ID'd with haste. I did wonder if the smaller one was a quinarius.

Some very nice Roman’s there well found. The reason for the silver is because it would have been a silver washed coin back in the day (not a copy). Some clear mint marks there as well for you to have a go at working out. ::g

The center coin is a barbarous copy of a Victoriae Laetae Princ Perp type, nice coin ::g
